How To Create And Customize Shopify Pages

In this section, we will go deeply into how to customize pages on Shopify.

1. Create and customize via Shopify theme

1.1 Create and customize via Shopify theme editor (Basic)

Step 1: Create a New Page in Shopify Admin 

In this step, I will guide you on how to create a new page first

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin
  2. Click Online Store > Pages
  3. Click the “Add page” button
  4. Enter a title for your page (e.g., “About Us” or “Shipping Info”)
  5. Add your content in the rich text editor (you can insert text, images, links, etc.)
  6. (Optional) Edit the Search engine listing preview to customize the URL handle, meta title, and meta description for SEO
  7. In the Theme template dropdown, choose a template (e.g., FAQs, about us, contact, or any custom template you’ve created)
  8. Click Save

Step 2: Customize the Page Layout Using the Theme Editor

In this step, I will guide you on how to edit Shopify pages

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes
  2. Click “Customize” on your live theme
  3. At the top of the theme editor, use the page dropdown to select the page you just created.
    • If it's not visible, click “Pages” and choose the one you want to edit
  4. On the left panel, use sections to:
    • Add new blocks (image, rich text, testimonials, newsletter, etc.)
    • Reorder or remove content blocks
    • Adjust text, colors, spacing, images

Remember: changes to a template affect all pages using that template. If you want different layouts for different pages, create a custom template.

Step 3: Assign pages to the template

In this step, I will guide you on how to assign pages on Shopify 

  1. Go back to Online Store > Pages
  2. Click on the page you want to assign
  3. Scroll down to the Theme template section
  4. Select the template you want (e.g., about-us, faq, or your custom layout)
  5. Click Save

Note, for the specific pages like homepage, product, collection, etc. If you want to create and customize, just go straight to the theme editor and customize the template first, and then go back to the admin, and then assign the product/collection to the templates you created. 

1.2.How to customize Shopify pages via Theme files (Advanced)

This method gives you full control over the structure and design of individual pages, especially when the Shopify Theme Editor isn’t enough.

Step 1: Access Your Theme Code

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin
  2. Navigate to Online Store > Themes
  3. Click Actions > Edit code on your current theme

This will open the theme’s file directory where you can edit or create new templates, sections, and assets.

Step 2: Create a Custom Page Template (JSON)

  1. Under the “Templates” folder, click Add a new template
  2. Choose Page as the type, and name your new template
     For example: about-us → this creates a file: page.about-us.json
  3. Shopify will automatically generate a base JSON structure like:

You can edit this to include custom sections, rearrange the order, or add new section blocks.

Step 3: Assign the Custom Template to Your Page

  1. Go to Online Store > Pages
  2. Open the page you want to customize (e.g. About Us)
  3. In the “Theme template” dropdown, select your new template (page.about-us)
  4. Click Save

Now when you open the Theme Editor and navigate to this page, you’ll be able to visually add and modify sections just for this layout.

Step 4: Create or Customize Page Sections

To control what appears on the page, you need to add or modify section files:

  1. In the Sections folder, click Add a new section
  2. Name it something like custom-about-us.liquid
  3. Inside the file, define your layout using Liquid + HTML.
